My Morning Routine

Posted by: on Jul 13, 2012 | 14 Comments

In many ways, I’m very blessed at the moment. Apart from working the odd breakfast shift, I have the whole day (up until 4pm, when I start work) to incorporate routine into my day. I find that my days are super productive and that actually, they totally fly by (a good sign than I’m enjoying the busy-ness of it).

Self love and being of service to others is the structure of my day; it’s a good mix of spending just the right amount of time on me, before landing myself on the computer and sending out lots of love. Here’s a loose insight into a day of the life of moi.

+ When I wake, I spend a few moments trying to recall any dreams I had. This is something I never used to do, but these days, if my dreams are pretty profound, I sift through them, and journal them.
+ Following that, I put some positive words out into the world. There are affirmations up all over my room, and glancing at them with silent moments of appreciation and hope is a beautiful way to enter the day. Gratitude is wonderful.
+ Rinse my eyes with cold water.
+ Dry body brush for five minutes.
+ Liquid breakfast: One shot of aloe or noni juice, a huge glass of warm water with lemon and a mug of herbal tea with a tablespoon of coconut oil melted into it (super decadent and delicious).

+ I then turn the infrared sauna on and while it’s heating up, I’ll check some emails and pour over a few blogs.

+ Sauna time: this has turned into sacred, quiet, lovely time for me. I use this time to meditate (I often take a few crystals in with me), visualise, day dream and learn. I listen to audio books, all the while focusing on my breath (it’s bloody hot in there!). It’s also a great opportunity for me to catch up on any reading or to scan through printed out emails from my coaching girls. Sauna time is also healing time: I use color therapy to energise the chakras that I believe need balancing (infrared saunas have different coloured lights). Plus, seeing as I’m not snowboarding this year, I welcome the chance to sweat daily (albeit while sitting on my butt). Sometimes I’ll also jump in the sauna after work; there’s nothing like a midnight sauna sesh to guarantee a good night’s sleep!

+ Green juice: a big one!

+ Hot shower- which I’ve actively transformed into affirmation time. I say nice things about myself, focus on how I’d like to feel for the rest of the day and what I’m going to achieve.
+ Whole body self-massage with coconut oil. Some days my hair requires a blow dry, but every day requires some apricot blush. It makes me feel happy.
+ If it’s a nice sunny day, I’ll go for a stroll around the village and take some photos.

+ Get online: I spend the rest of my day blogging, B-Schooling, self-studying and emailing friends and my coaching girls, with a clear intention of sending lots of love out into the world.

+ I’ll either have a green smoothie or a more substantial lunch, before getting ready to start my ‘work day’ at four.

After this season, I’ll be moving on to more of a 9-5 lifestyle; no more hospitality and late nights. Instead, I’ll be looking to work in retail positions that will compliment my studies and dreams. I’m daily affirming that I’ll be working in a health food shop or new age store (or both!)*, and I’m so excited about getting paid to learn more of what I love. Obviously my routine’s going to be shaken up hugely; it will be interesting to see whether I can still get as much done during the day as I am now, but regardless, I welcome this change into my life. I’m also beyond stoked to get moving again- yesterday I day dreamt of throwing on some sneakers and just running! It’s been a while…

Do any chunks of my routine resonate with you? Does any of it inspire you? I’d love to hear about your morning routine (or post-work routine!) in the comments below.

All my love.

* Declare your dreams, baby! PS- can anyone recommend me any health food shops or new age, metaphysical stores around Burleigh Heads, Palmy etc that I can start honing in on? Please and thank you!

Lately my morning routine has been waking up, snuggling with my doggy for a few minutes, oil pulling, Bible reading/prayer time (my version of gratitude, intentions, and getting in touch with the world), green juice, blog reading/writing, sometimes a workout, green smoothie, dry brushing, and a shower.

I also start work later in the afternoon. I really enjoy having the earlier part of the day to do whatever I want.

I really need to get more into affirmations! They seem like such an incredible way to stay positive!

    Thanks for sharing, Tara! :)

Oh, you green juice goddess!! Your life sounds amazinggg! How are infared saunas, do you have a portable one? I’ve heard so many great things about them, but have never actually tried one before.

My morning routine – wake up in the morning, bathe + apply coconut oil is in mine too! Then I’ll make a green smoothie, drink a warm water with lemon juice in it and prepare for lunch (usually lots of vegetables with grains/a wrap). Some days (when inspried) I’ll do some yoga + meditate before heading out.

Definitely would like to incorporate dry body brushing, more green drinks and AFFIRMATIONS! :D Have you got my email I sent you two days ago? So excited to put your article out to the world! xxxx

Could you talk more about this sauna? Is it something you have at home, or a facility in the building where you live? My gym has a steam room which I sometimes use, and love, but I miss a dry heat! x Catherine

@Lindsay: awesome routine beautiful. I’m keen to try oil pulling. Maybe that’s one more thing I can do it the sauna (I get a lot done in there!)

@ Jia : The sauna is fricking unreal! I’m so lucky to have one at the hotel we live in- but you can get them installed pretty easily (if you’ve got a spare $2000 lying around). I’m just trying to make the most of it while I can! I’ve given you lots of affirmations to work with girl :) Get affirming. Love you

@Catherine: Yes I can! I’ll do a specific post the infrared I think. I know what you mean, and definitely prefer the dry heat of i/r sauna + it’s healing especially if you’re pretty intuned with your chakras and know what coloured lights do what. Fascinating stuff. xxx

I second/third the call for a post on the infrared sauna – my naturopath has one at her practice but I’ve never ventured to find out about it…

Wow, your morning routine sounds amazing! So many nurturing things…

I have to be at work at 7am (and am *so* not a morning person!), so: I roll out of bed at six, take two minutes to do this energy-field-lifting-stretch that I love, throw on clothes and jump in the car. I make my green smoothies the night before, so I can have them sitting at my desk… It’s less-than-ideal, but at the moment I am prioritizing sleep over everything else! But adding five minutes of body brushing to the mix sounds very achievable!!!

I’m in Brissie Tara so will have to make the trip to meet you for a green juice once you’ve moved honey! I am currently working at a holistic health centre (which I am excited to say I totally manifested) while I’m studying it is heaven! I love going to work, I work with amazing people & I help customers change their life daily! I just love it & I wish that for you too!

My morning routine involves, cuddles with my hubby before he goes to work, lemon in hot water, a warm grounding brekky, dry body brushing, shower, meditate, then I put on my oil burner with a therapeutic grade essential oil blend to help me concentrate to study, I gather crystals that I feel intuitively drawn to to support me for the day & I scroll through my hundreds of affirmations & inspirational quotes & find one that resonates. Then it’s study time before either going to work in the arvo or going to uni.
