My ‘Ready Fire Aim’ technique – that I’ve used throughout my life, and more recently, in business – is starting to feel a little rusty.
There’s a certain level of patience, attention to detail and fine-tooth-combing required in Turning Pro. And let’s face it; we all want a generous piece of the PRO pie. We want to expand our consciousness, play bigger in the world, write better stuff, help people on a larger scale, make enough money so we can hire a team, eat organic and be philanthropic.
It’s your birthright to feel that way.
“I just want to do things… better.”
In case you didn’t already know, here are my two most favouritest-in-the-world quotes that light my business path.

Both have nursed me through the most tumultuous, joyous and deeply fulfilling nine months of my life. Be bold. Be a pioneer. Screw the man! Do it your way. Take a deep breath, and GO!
I’ll never take those 8 potent words down from my Vision Wall. Ever. But admittedly, it’s time to add just a fraction more thought to the process.
This post is for you if, like me, you’re ready to inject some good old fashioned impeccable thoughtfulness into your days; be it into your business, health, relationships, or your blog.
Notice what lights you up. What is it about someone else’s structure that makes you think: Damn. That’s good. Discover what it is and then set about implementing something similar, with an undeniable ‘you’ spin on it. This isn’t about cheap-skatin’ and copy-cattin’, we’re talking about making small, inspired changes that’ll revolutionise your life.
Here are some examples:
A) Pristine health longs for YOU to connect with it. You’re a person who ‘wings it’ throughout the day. Preparation isn’t prioritised; you might grab a sandwich at lunch and have a salad for dinner. And all of those green juices on instagram are driving you insane. Where the hell do people find the time for all that!?!
So, you make yourself a deal. You’ll juice your little heart out in the morning, and head to work with 3 or 4 mason jars of nutrient dense elixir. Sure, maybe you’ll still grab a takeaway sandwich at lunch, but those ten minutes you spend getting friendly with your juicer in the morning is going to pay off, big time.
** I’ve started doing this – and it rocks. I’ve started making 3 juices and 2 smoothies in the morning for my day ahead. That way, when I head to the beach to write, not only am I nurturing my health in one of the best ways possible, but I’m drinking some serious brain fuel.
B) You notice that those around you seem to just have everything so figured out. So calculated- but not in a soul-confining, restricting, predictable and non-mysterious way. Rather, it’s somehow in an expansive, laden-with-possibility, divinely creative way.
And it leaves you feeling, well, kind of lazy.
Shit woman, do I hear you or what!?
The good news is – this stuff is all learnable. Start with one sweet little thing at a time.
Here is your juicy as hell little list of signposts. Choose one today that you feel will point you in the right direction. Play with that one for a week, and then return here, and add another to your arsenal.
Set an intention for your day. Choose a single word, or a sentence, or a feeling.
Meditate. You know it’s time! 5 minutes in the morning. 5 minutes at night.
List 5 (very specific) things you’re grateful for at this moment. Follow this with 5 (very specific) things you’re ready and willing to change/ let go of/ create.
I love this technique from the beautiful Rach. When she’s in re-callibration mode, she writes this list. Saying yes to ___________ , means I have to say no to ____________. It’s reverse psychology at it’s finest. What are you saying yes to, too often?
Create a vision board. Or a vision wall.
Set aside time to visualise. This is very, very different to meditation. Visualisation is self-indulgent, in the holiest of ways. It’s a fantasy that you have every intention of living out. It’s creation in motion. Leave no holes barred. Close your eyes, and imagine the sights, smells and textures of your dream life, daily.
Start a prayer practice. This is life-changing. My favourite prayer is ‘Thank you’.
Pull an Oracle Card every day.
Handwrite in nature. Get out of the damn house / office.
That’s cool. But what about the business stuff?
I’ve asked myself this time and time again, and I still often hear crickets.
Some people nail online marketing.
Some people smash time management out the park.
Others have a great knack for stylish design and flair.
I for one, feel as though I have rebellious personal development and curious self-love down to an (almost) fine art.
I don’t particularly enjoy reading business books. I prefer marinating in pages filled with chakras and eccentric people who can channel wisdom from the heavens. I’m a weirdo like that.
I love it when ideas traipse around my head.
I’m a short term thinker (who, yes, has a Vision Wall).
I regularly surrender my future and instead, narrow my focus on what is it I can do today to feel phenomenal and make an impact in your life (a la The Desire Map).
When I’m working with my clients, yes, we’re working toward something, but that something is only ever going to be a manifested projection of what’s happening right now. So babes, what do we have to do to get you humming along happily ASAP?
But planning out my ideal business vision, and forecasting a website re-design (which I’m aching for badly), and summing up my role in this world in a single paragraph?
I find this really, really difficult. Because, as I mentioned before, I want to feel good now.
Can you relate? Do you ever feel as though you’re ten minutes, or two weeks, or six months behind the eight ball?
If you answered yes, then this nod of recognition is for you. Brave you, who often takes big risks, without too much contemplation and preparation. Your ‘winging it’ skills have served you well so far, but if you’re anything like me, something’s gotta give. We’ve got to beef up our risks with a little more patience. This is what attention to detail is all about.
And here’s the thing about patience. As much as if often feels counterintuitive to your quick-draw reflexes, it’s often a blessing. Hang back a little, you fire cracker, you, because something’s cooking. Can you feel it?
When you notice the wonderful work that those around you are putting out into the world, recognise that most of the time, there’s been many hours of blood, sweat and tears poured into the creation process.
Let’s draw in on some of that ‘strategy’. We can still utilise our winging it superpowers in other ways, like on stage, in an interview, in free-flowing conversation. We can confirm heaven-sent ideas rapidly, and with full-blown enthusiasm, but let’s nurture those very ideas a little better – with patience and attention.
And, a little complimentary piece of advice, whether you’re in business, or have a blog-baby that keeps you super busy. Hire an assistant. Not only can they systemise everything for you, which subsequently makes YOU feel much more professional, prepared, and (the big one) organised, but your assistant can double as a sounding board, and a hero of beautiful ideas. Match made in heaven.
